The Brewton-Parker College Barons Baseball team took on Middle Georgia College in a three-game series last week.

Game 1

Brewton-Parker Baseball returned home to Mount Vernon to host Middle Georgia on Friday afternoon for a single nine-inning contest. The Barons (1-4) knocked the Knights (0-1) in a 12-2 victory, forcing the seven-inning run-rule with the 10-run deficit.

Middle Georgia opened the game with a home run and a sacrifice flyout for a pair of scores in the opening inning and was followed by a Brewton-Parker response that produced a big bottom half by plastering five runs to the scoreboard.

The Barons pieced together four hits to bring home five runs. Tate Worrell connected on a bunt to load the bases after a pair of opening walks. Kennard Dawson singled to bring home the first run before Michael Son notched an RBI base hit as well. Worrell was brought in on a balk before Drew DeMasi and Jacob Mantooth both produced RBI ground outs.

In the bottom of the second, Carson Kirby hit a laser over the right field wall to give BPC a 6-2 advantage. Brandon Lawrence connected on a double that went deep down the left field line but was caught out at third trying to extend the play. BPC tallied one more base hit from Worrell before closing the inning.

After a few scoreless innings, Middle Georgia put a pair of runners on the bases but were unable to score before the Barons added three more runs to the tally in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to seven. Worrell began with a single as Dawson followed with a two-run shot over the left field wall for an 8-2 lead. Jack Morris added another to the board with an RBI single to left field to give BPC a 9-2 advantage, heading to the sixth inning.

MGA produced another two-hit, scoreless inning in the top of the sixth before BPC put the game well out of reach in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three more runs. After a batter was hit by a pitch and a walk to open, Worrell batted in a run before BPC added a score on a wild pitch. The Barons utilized another wild pitch to move the score to 122. BPC managed to sneak out of a scoreless, threehit seventh inning from the Knights to hold on to the 10-run advantage to secure the run-rule victory.

Worrell went 4-for-4 on the day with three runs and an RBI and was followed by Dawson and Morris with a pair of hits each. Dawson led the game with three RBIs and knocked a homer alongside Kirby. Game 2

Carson Kirby was looking to get the bats hot early for the Barons, opening with a double down the left field line and advancing to third on an error to put BPC in a great scoring opportunity. After a leadoff walk, Michael Son tripled to bring in Dawson before DeMasi singled.
