Lady Eagles Drop 1st Game Lady Eagles Drop 1st Game

The Montgomery County High School Lady Eagles basketball team dropped their first game of the year last week as they fell to Jenkins County on Tuesday night. They bounced back with a win over Telfair County on Friday. The boys fell to both Jenkins and Telfair, but picked up a win over Savannah Classical Academy on Saturday.

It was all Marley Bell for MCHS on the night as she scored all 31 points for the Lady Eagles. The rest of the team struggled to get any shots to fall as they went 0-19 from the field. The first quarter was the downfall for MCHS as they fell behind early, 12-2. MCHS kept pace in the second, but were still trailing 21-10 heading into halftime.

In the third, Jenkins maintained their lead, and were on top 31-19 heading to the fourth quarter. In the fourth, the Lady Eagles made a run, but they came up short, falling 36-31.

Boys vs. Jenkins

The MCHS boys didn't fare any better against the War Eagles of Jenkins. They fell behind and could not catch up. Jenkins won the game 69-47.

Girls vs. Telfair

MCHS bounced back with a win on Friday at home against the Lady Trojans of Telfair. MCHS pulled out to a 17-8 lead in the first quarter, and they went on a run in the second to extend that lead to 40-17 at halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Eagles tried to get lots of girls more playing time in hopes that that would help them into the playoffs. MCHS led 52-31 at the end of the third, and went on to win the game 67-46.

Bell led the way for MCHS with 26 points, Amire Banks added 20, and Dekimber Wright scored 10 in the win.

Boys vs. Telfair

The MCHS boys couldn't get much going against the Trojans as they dropped their game. Telfair took the win over the Eagles, 72-39.

Boys vs. SCA

The boys picked up their only win of the week as they took on Savannah Classical's Spartans on Saturday in Mt. Vernon. MCHS rolled to the win, 63-41, over SCA.

The Lady Eagles are now 20-1 on the season and are 5-1 in the Region. They are currently ranked as the #3

team in the State. The boys are 6-15 on the year and are 3-5 in Region play.

MCHS has a busy final week of the regular season this week. They were at Claxton on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday at Emanuel County Institute at 6:00 p.m., will travel to McIntosh County Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, and will wrap up the season on Saturday at home against Treutlen at 6:00 p.m.
