Wheeler Wrapping Up Season
The Wheeler County High School Bulldogs basketball teams faced off with Bryan County, Dooly County, and Hawkinsville last week. The Lady Bulldogs got a win over Dooly, with the boys winning games over Dooly and Hawkinsville.
Girls vs. Bryan
Bryan County was able to hold Nikita James to just 12 points in the game as they rolled to a win over the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Redskins took the win over Wheeler, 66-26. James led Wheeler with 12 points, and Shiann Carey added 8 in the loss.
Boys vs. Bryan
It was a closer game in the boys game, but the Wheeler boys struggled to keep the offense going. They dropped their game to the Redskins, 46-38.
Girls vs. Dooly
The Lady Bulldogs had no problems with Dooly in Vienna on Friday night. Wheeler led the game 24-6 at the end of the first, and they never looked back. The score at halftime was 408.
Wheeler was on top 55-10 at the end of the third quarter and they took the win, 59-12.
Boys vs. Dooly
The Wheeler boys pulled out a close one as they defeated the Bobcats of Dooly. Dooly was on top 19-16 at the end of the first quarter, but in the second the Bulldogs went on a run as they took the lead and were in front, 34-29 at the end of the first half.
In the third, the Bobcats closed in on the Bulldogs, but Wheeler led 4847 heading to the fourth. In that final quarter, the Bulldogs held off Dooly as they won the game, 7069. Girls vs. Hawkinsville
Wheeler played tough but could not keep up with the Lady Red Devils. Hawkinsville got the win over Wheeler, 55- 37.
James led Wheeler with 20 points, and Carey added 9 in the loss. Boys vs. Hawkinsville
It was another close battle for the Bulldogs. Hawkinsville was on top 11-8 at the end of the first quarter and took a 22-18 lead into halftime.
In the third, the Red Devils pulled away, and were on top 36-27 heading to the fourth quarter. In the fourth, the Bulldogs went on a run as they outscored Hawkinsville 16-5. That gave the Bulldogs the lead and the win, 43-41.
This week Wheeler wraps up the regular season. The Lady Bulldogs are currently 2-17 on the year and are 2-7 in Region play. The boys are 14-5 on the season and are 6-3 in the Region. Wheeler took on East Laurens on Tuesday after presstime, and will play the final games on Saturday at Wilcox County at 6:00 p.m.
