Wreck Closes Georgia Highway 29 in Higgston

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating an early morning crash that closed a portion of GA Hwy 29 near Big Al’s Country Market for several hours on Tuesday, January 30.

According to the Patrol’s preliminary investigation, an SUV was traveling southbound along the highway, when the driver presumably fell asleep and failed to maintain the lane of travel. The vehicle crossed the centerline and drove into the northbound lane, striking a semi-truck that was headed north.

The driver of the SUV was transported by ambulance to Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia with suspected injuries. The semi-truck driver received no injuries. Neither driver was indentified in the preliminary report.
