BPC Sweeps Columbia

Brewton-Parker College Softball started its run of away games with a doubleheader against Columbia International (S.C.) on Tuesday afternoon of last week. Brewton- Parker (4-0) swept the Rams (2-2) in a pair of shutouts, winning game one 3-0 and game two 6-0.
Game 1
After a hitless first two innings, Destiny Lucas gave the Lady Barons their first hit of the game with a single to left field in the top of the third. In the top of the fourth, BPC started to find a groove with Abby Flowers picking up a single to left field, followed by Alyssa Usrey benefitting from an error and advancing to second on the throw.
Chloe Strickland brought in the first pair of runs for the Lady Barons as Usrey and Rylie Lumley crossed the plate for the 2-0 lead in the fourth. Singles from Cailyn Snellgrove and Skylar Strickland made the bases loaded with one out. The inning ended with an infield fly from Taylor Elliott to bring in Chloe Strickland to give the Barons a 3-0 advantage.
In the fifth inning, Flowers gathered a hit with a single up the middle for her second hit of the day. The Lady Barons held the Rams to two scoreless innings to take game one 3-0.
Brewton-Parker led 7-2 in hits with a .259 hitting percentage as a team. Flowers led with two hits while Strickland notched one hit with one run and two RBIs. Natalie O’Neal pitched all seven innings and gathered three strikeouts with two walks while allowing just two hits.
Game 2
After the first two innings, BryAnn Pound gathered the first hit for BPC with a single to third base. The Lady Barons put two on base after Chloe Strickland was walked. Alexis Bradshaw picked up an RBI off a fielder’s choice and advanced on an error before Pound advanced and eventually scored for the opening run.
Brewton-Parker improved the lead to 2-0, with a single to shortstop from Tori Wright to bring in Strickland. Flowers picked up another RBI, with a base hit to center field to get Bradshaw home for the 3-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Pound was walked and made it to third base from a ground out off the bat of Strickland. Wilson reached first on an error which scored Pound for the fourth run of the contest.
After two scoreless innings, BPC scored two runs in the last inning of play. After hitting a single, Lucas was brought in with an RBI from Wright. Elliott put up a sacrifice fly for Wright to pick up a run. The Lady Barons shut out CIU in the last inning to win game two 6- 0.
The Lady Barons led 5-3 in hits with Flowers leading the team with two hits and an RBI followed by Wright with a hit and a pair of RBIs. Kira Altman pitched all seven innings, with one strikeout and two walks.
