Durden Heading To Shorter
Last Wednesday at Robert Toombs Christian Academy on National Signing Day, Tripp Durden signed his letter of intent to play football for Shorter University in Rome, GA. Shorter is a Division II school that plays in the Conference Carolinas.
Durden stated, “It is a very exciting day for me. Just a real milestone day. 12 years of hard work have paid off, missed a lot of things just working on my game instead of being out with friends, but here I am now, and it is just a great day. The coaching staff at Shorter is just great. They were really transparent with everything they said. It is also a Christian school, which felt right to me as well. I must thank all my coaches, my parents, teammates, friends; I just could not have done this myself. Everyone has helped me along this path.”
Durden’s mother Katherine said, “I am happy and sad at the same time. Happy for this opportunity for him, but sad that he is going away. Tripp has been wanting to do this, it has been his dream, he works hard and we're just thrilled for him. The Christian side of the school just fit us, the coach was very understanding, and they just felt like home.”
RTCA Head Coach Matt Meeks added, “I don't think Tripp has found his ceiling yet. He has a lot of talent and has grown as a player over the past three years, but still has a lot more room to go. He is just a great young man overall. He was also our leading receiver, and I am looking forward to seeing what he can do at the next level.”
