TCHS Ends Season 23-2
The Toombs County High School basketball teams took on Pierce County and Tattnall County last week to close out the regular season. The boys won both games as they finished out one of the best seasons in TCHS history. The Lady Bulldogs dropped their final two games, but will still play a play-in game for the Region Tournament.
The TCHS boys finished with a record of 23-2 and were 12-0 in Region play. They also are currently ranked 4th in the State in AA. Their only loses have come to 6A Veterans and 4A Paxon School out of Jacksonville, FL.
Girls vs. Pierce
The Lady Bulldogs dropped a onepoint game to the Lady Bears of Pierce last Friday night in Blackshear. Toombs battled all the way to the final buzzer, but fell just short, 55-54.
Boys vs. Pierce
The boys got another big win as they jumped out to a 15-6 lead in the first. They added to that in the second to hold a 26-13 lead at halftime.
But in the third quarter, the Bears went on a run as they closed the lead to 35-28. Toombs held in the fourth, though, and took the win, 51-43.
TCHS was led by Dominic Eason with 14 points, Parker Stanley added 13, Mike Polke scored 9, and Gavin Fletcher posted 8 in the win.
Girls vs. Tattnall
The Lady Bulldogs fell to the Lady Warriors on the road on Saturday. Tattnall cruised to a 50-20 win over TCHS to close out the regular season.
Boys vs. Tattnall
The Warriors tried to slow down the game to take away the TCHS offense, and they did a good job, but Toombs came out on top. Toombs held a 15-6 lead by the end of the first quarter, but in the second, the two teams combined for just 5 points. Toombs was on top 19-7 at the end of the first half.
In the third, Tattnall closed the lead to 34-24, and then went on a run in the fourth, but Toombs held them off to take the win, 42-37.
Eason was the only player for TCHS in double figures, and he finished the game with 14 points.
This week the Lady Bulldogs had a play-in game for the Region Tournament against Windsor Forest after presstime. If they won that game, they would play against Pierce County on Tuesday, also after presstime. The boys will play on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at home with their opponent to be determined.
