The Toombs County High School Bulldogs baseball team had a busy opening week as they played two contests against Savannah Country Day and one against Coffee County. The Bulldogs won their first game over Savannah, but dropped the next two games. vs. Savannah

The Toombs County Bulldogs baseball team dug deep and fought back for a 9-7 victory over the Savannah Country Day Hornets on Wednesday! Brantley Upshaw and Jackson Jenkins were both offensive heroes, with Upshaw going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, two singles, and an RBI and Jenkins finishing the day going 3- for- 4.

The Hornets struck first, scoring four runs in the first two innings, but the Bulldogs refused to fold. In the bottom of the fourth, a barrage of doubles by Trayvone Harris, Jackson Jenkins, and Cameron Ledford ignited a 7-run rally, tying the game at 7-7. Trayvone Harris pitched three strong innings in relief, striking out five and allowing only two runs to secure the win for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs' offense came alive, collecting 13 hits led by Upshaw and Jenkins’ 3-hit performances. Jenkins also drove in a team-high 3 runs, showcasing his clutch hitting throughout the night. Ledford and Stanley contributed multiple hits as well.

The Bulldogs demonstrated impressive discipline at the plate, drawing seven walks as a team. Harris led the way with two walks, contributing to the team’s smart approach at the plate.

With a potent offense and solid pitching, the Bulldogs look poised for continued success as they navigate the rest of the season. vs. Coffee

Coffee got the scoring started in the top of the first inning with one run, and then added another in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead over the Bulldogs.

Toombs picked up a run in the bottom of the second inning to close the lead to 2-1, but in the top of the third the Trojans of Coffee plated another run to make it 3-1.

Toombs added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Coffee scored one more in the seventh to take a 4-2 lead. Coffee held in the bottom of the frame to win the game 4- 2. vs. Savannah

Toombs dropped their game to Savannah in the rematch on Saturday in Savannah. Savannah had a big second inning as they scored five runs to jump out into the lead over the Bulldogs.

Toombs scored two runs in the top of the third inning, but Savannah added a run in the fifth and one more in the sixth on the way to a 7-2 win over Toombs.

This week Toombs hosted Dublin on Tuesday after presstime. They are back in action on Wednesday at Bryan County at 5:45 p.m., and will play Thursday at Metter at 5:30 p.m.
