On Saturday, February 3, Wheeler County FFA and 4-H hosted the Bulldog Winter Classic at the Wheeler County Agriculture Facility. Twenty-eight students from Laurens, Wheeler, Montgomery, Telfair, and Treutlen counties were at the show with their livestock projects.

The show began with the Pee Wee Showmanship class at 10:00 a.m. Hattie Claire Sconyers, a second grader from Treutlen County, won the Pee Wee class. In the Novice Showmanship class, fourth grader Layla Vann from Wheeler County placed first. Lindsey Johnson, an eighth-grade student from Laurens County, won the Junior Showmanship Class. In the Intermediate class, tenth grader Luke Burns from Montgomery County placed first. Winning the Senior Showmanship class was Colby Kinchen, an eleventh-grade student from Laurens County.

The market weight classes followed showmanship. Luke Burns won Class 1- Purebreds with his 205 lb. Berkshire gilt. In Class 2- Purebreds, Alice Braddy’s 246 lb. Duroc gilt placed first. Layla Vann won Class 3- Purebred with her 285 lb. Yorkshire barrow. In Class 4- Crossbred, Hattie Claire Sconyers placed first with her 168 lb. gilt. Landon Burns and his 200 lb. barrow won Class 5- Crossbred. In Class 6- Crossbred, Anna Beth Ethredge won with her 209 lb. gilt. Makayla Hughes took first place in Class 7- Crossbred with her 212 lb. barrow. Winning Class 8- Crossbred was Hattie Claire Sconyers and her 235 lb. gilt. Makayla Hughes also won Class 9- Crossbred with her 258 lb. gilt.

Placing in the top five overall were Makayla Hughes- Grand Champion, Hattie Claire Sconyers- Reserve Champion, Anna Beth Ethredge- 3rd Overall, Zoey Vann- 4th Overall, and Layla Vann-5th Overall.
