3 Wins For The Bulldogs

The Toombs County High School Bulldog baseball team had a busy week as they played three nonregion games. They faced off with Dublin on Tuesday at home, and then were on the road on Wednesday against Bryan County and on Thursday at Metter. The Bulldogs picked up wins in all three of the games to improve their early season record to 4-2. vs. Dublin

On Tuesday, the Toombs County Bulldogs baseball team cruised past the Dublin Fighting Irish 12-1! Brantley Upshaw led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 with a double, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored.

After scoring first in the opening frame, the Bulldogs exploded for 11 runs in the third inning. A string of walks, errors, and timely hits put the game out of reach early. Upshaw’s double was a key highlight, driving in two runs, while MJ Burton’s sacrifice fly and Tucker Braddy’s RBI single added to the damage.

Not only did Upshaw shine at the plate, but he also dominated on the mound. He pitched four strong innings, allowing just one unearned run while striking out five. TJ Stanley came on in relief to slam the door shut, pitching a scoreless inning with three strikeouts.

The Bulldogs displayed discipline at the plate, drawing seven walks to go along with their nine hits. This patient approach put pressure on the Dublin pitching staff and helped create scoring opportunities. vs. Bryan

The Toombs County Bulldogs baseball team delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday, blanking the Bryan County Redskins 5-0 thanks to a stellar pitching performance from Trayvone Harris and a timely offensive attack led by Brantley Upshaw.

Harris was lights-out on the mound, striking out a phenomenal 10 batters over seven scoreless innings. He allowed only one hit and walked three, showcasing his impressive command and control.

The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the board, plating four runs in the top of the second inning. A fielder’s choice, Harris’ RBI single, and Upshaw’s two-run single gave them a comfortable lead.

Upshaw was a force at the plate, going 3-for-4 on the day. He led the team in both hits and RBIs, demonstrating his offensive prowess.

The Bulldogs’ defense was flawless, committing no errors throughout the game. vs. Metter

The Toombs County Bulldogs Baseball team defeated the Metter Tigers 11-7 in a high-scoring affair on Thursday night. Cameron Ledford was the star of the show, driving in six runs on three hits, including a game-changing grand slam in the seventh inning.

The Bulldogs got on the board early, scoring two runs in the first inning on a Ledford single and a Metter error. They added another run in the second inning thanks to a Brantley Upshaw single.

Ledford’s bat came alive in the late innings doubling in the sixth inning to tie the game at 6-6, then delivering the decisive blow in the seventh with a grand slam to left field, putting the Bulldogs up 11-6.

Jackson Jenkins came on in relief and pitched four strong innings, striking out six and allowing only one earned run to secure the victory. TJ Stanley pitched three solid innings to start the game allowing only one hit.

The Bulldogs collected 10 hits as a team, with Upshaw and Trayvone Harris collecting multiple hits. They also displayed impressive discipline at the plate, drawing eight walks, led by Harris and Stanley with two each. Harris also stole two bases.

This week the Bulldogs faced Bryan County on Monday and Swainsboro on Tuesday, both after presstime. They will back in action on Friday in Douglas at Coffee County at 6:00 p.m.
