BPC Softball Plays Coastal

Brewton-Parker College Softball traveled down to Brunswick, Ga., to take on No. 18-ranked Coastal Georgia. The Lady Barons (8-6) were swept by the Mariners (13-3) by a score of 10-2 in game one and 3-1 in game two.
Game 1
The Lady Barons started the game by scoring in the first inning. Alexis Bradshaw made it to third base off of a hit a sacrifice bunt from Destiny Lucas, and a stolen base. Tori Wright brought Bradshaw in with a base hit to center field. The Mariners tied the game up 1-1 after picking up two hits in the bottom of the first inning.
After a scoreless second inning, Coastal Georgia took a 2-1 lead with three hits and a run in the third inning. The Mariners gathered some momentum in the fourth inning, with a walk, a hit-bypitch, a wild pitch, and three hits to take a 6-1 advantage.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Barons picked up another run when Cailyn Snellgrove got on base and made it home after hits from Ashley Wilson and Bradshaw. Coastal Georgia continued their momentum in the bottom of the fifth inning by picking up four more runs, dropping the Barons 10-2 in five innings.
Brewton-Parker trailed 10-4 in hits. Bradshaw led with two hits and one run, while Snellgrove had a run as well. Wright and Wilson both had hits. Natalie O’Neal (5-2) pitched 3.1 innings and picked up one strikeout and one walk while giving up six hits and five runs. Maeleigh Burns pitched 1.1 innings and gave up three walks, four hits, and five runs.
Game 2
After three scoreless innings, the Mariners picked up a run with two hits in the fourth inning to go up 1-0. Both teams followed up with a scoreless fifth inning before BPC managed to respond.
In the top of the sixth, Brewton-Parker tied the game up at 1-1 with singles from Lucas and Gracie Neal to get Lucas to second base. A single from Wright brought home the tying run.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Mariners took a two-run lead with two BPC errors and a hit. Coastal Georgia held off BPC to drop the Lady Barons 3-1 in game two of the doubleheader.
The Lady Barons tied with the Mariners 5-5 in hits. Lucas led the team with a hit and a run while Bradshaw, Neal, Wright, and Alyssa Usrey also gathered hits. Kira Altman (3-2) pitched five innings, giving up two walks, four hits, and one run. O’Neal (5-3) pitched one inning with one strikeout, giving up three walks, one hit, and two runs.
