BPC’s Saul In National Meet

Brewton-Parker College Men’s Wrestling had two athletes travel to Wichita, Kan., for opening day action at the 67th Annual NAIA Men’s Wrestling National Championships.

Day 1 Wilkinson Saul went 2-1 to advance to the second day of action while Houston ended his season going 1-2.

Sean Houston wrestled in the 165-pound division and started his day dropping a 17-6 major decision to the seven-seed Braeden Baller from Texas Wesleyan. In the second match, Houston secured a 12-2 major decision over No. 10 Kevon Freeman of Ottawa (Kan.). In the third match, Houston fell to injury default against the No. 9 Jordan Komac from Providence (Mont.).

Saul started his day in the 285-pound weight class with a 6-3 decision over No. 13 Jacob Vincent from Simpson (Calif.), before falling in a 15-0 tech fall to No. 4 Gabe Jacobs from Southeastern (Fla.). In the second round of consolations, Saul took down Gavin Harper of Reinhardt (Ga.) in a 5-3 sudden victory to move on to day two.

Day 2

Brewton-Parker Men’s Wrestling student-athlete Wilkinson Saul advanced to day two of the 67th Annual NAIA Men’s Wrestling National Championships in Wichita, Kan.

Saul fell in the first match of the day to No. 12 Carlos Figueroa from Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in a 6-0 decision, ending his run with a 2-2 tournament record.

After a scoreless first period, Saul gave up a fourpoint near fall to end the second period. In the third, Figueroa got an escape point and picked up a riding time point at the end of the match to drop Saul 6-0. Saul’s run came to an end, falling two matches short of All-American status.
