Glenwood Offers $1,000 Reward For Info About Center Vandalism
The City of Glenwood is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for an act of vandalism at the City’s Community Center. The incident occurred between February 9 and 11.
Glenwood Mayor G.M. Joiner said the perpetrator(s) of the vandalism kicked in the back door of the Center, gaining entry, and returned a few days later to throw a cement block through the front windows of the building. “Nothing was taken. There was nothing of value inside the building to steal except an old microwave. That building was built 40 years ago and we’ve never had it vandalized before,” Joiner said.
The post on the City’s Facebook page announcing the reward was intended to make the public aware of the crime and to encourage citizens to share information regarding the crime, but Joiner said that so far, no one has come forward with leads. “People are disgusted,” the Mayor said of the feedback online about the seemingly random destruction.
The Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident.
