Indians Off To 4-5 Start
The Indians baseball team of Vidalia High School took on West Laurens on Tuesday of last week, hosted Coffee County on Thursday, and South Effingham was in town on Friday. VHS dropped two of the three games as their early season record drops to 4-5. vs. W. Laurens
A walk-off left Vidalia Indians on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat to West Laurens.
The Indians fell behind in the bottom of the first inning when the Raiders plated three runs. VHS tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning, but the Raiders answered in the bottom half of the frame with one run to go back on top, 4-3.
In the top of the seventh inning the Indians again tied the game as they scored one run to make it 4-4. VHS held in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, VHS scored another run to take their first lead of the game, 5-4. But in the bottom of the eighth, West Laurens put two on the board to take the win, 6-5, over Vidalia.
Jackson Berry took the loss for Vidalia. The reliever went two and one-third innings, allowing two runs on one hit. Tucker McDonald started on the hill with a good outing. The righty allowed five hits and four runs over five innings, striking out six.
Ty Beck and Veer Patel each collected two hits for Vidalia. vs. Coffee
Vidalia’s effort to come back from down eight runs in the sixth came up just short, as they fell 8-6 to Coffee.
Coffee had taken the lead with three runs in the third, and five more in the top of the sixth to put VHS in an 8-0 hole.
Vidalia scored six runs on five hits in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jackson Berry singled, scoring one run, Andrew Norfleet hit into a double play that scored one run, Veer Patel singled, scoring one run, and Lawson Lowe homered to right field, scoring three runs. But it was not enough as they fell, 8-6 to the Trojans.
Vidalia had 10 hits on the night. Leadoff hitter Berry led the Indians with a 3-4 night. Lowe and Ricks each had two hits on the night. vs. S. Effingham
The Indians snatched the lead late in their 4-2 victory over South Effingham. Vidalia was down 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Lawson Lowe doubled, scoring three runs.
Effingham had the early lead with two runs in the top of the second inning, but VHS came back with four in the fifth on the way to a 4-2 win.
Berry earned the complete game win giving up five hits while striking out eight.
This week the Indians were at Wayne County on Monday and hosted Bleckley County on Tuesday, both after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday when West Laurens comes to town at 6:00 p.m., and then on Friday they will be at Bleckley County on Friday at 5:45 p.m.
