VHS Chess In Swainsboro

Members of the Vidalia High School Chess Team competed in the final Swainsboro Tournament on March 2, 2024, and finished as the Top High School Team while 3 VHS players won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.

In First Place was Sukumar Paidi, who went undefeated (5-0), Ethan Hart won Second Place (4-1), Nathan Britton (4-1) to finished in Third Place, while Maddison Britton, a 7th grader at JR Trippe, won the First-Time Tournament Award.

For the 2024 Swainsboro Tournament Series, five VHS players in the Top 10 were: 1st- Ethan Hart, 3rd-Nate Landon, 4th-Bradley Landon, 5th-Sukumar Paidi, and 6th-Nathan Britton. This completes the regular season tournaments for the VHS CHESS Team as they will prepare to compete in the Georgia Chess Association's State Tournament on March 16 at Gwinnett Perimeter College in Lawrenceville. In 2023, the VHS team won the South Georgia Region Title and finished in the Final Four at the GSA State Tournament. The 2024 team is returning 4 starters and plans to improve on the 2023 performance.
