It was a good week as the Toombs County High School Bulldogs soccer teams swept Appling County and Tattnall County last week. The Bulldog boys with those two wins defeated the #7 and #1 ranked teams in the state in AA. vs. Appling

On Tuesday evening, the soccer teams played host to Appling County. In rainy conditions, the Bulldogs managed to pull off the sweep.

Girls

In the girls match, Estrella Barbosa scored 2 goals on corner kicks, while Emma Wright managed to find the net 2 times as well. Emerson and Aniston Powell each scored 1 goal, to finish off a dominant 6-0 performance. Goalkeeper Madison Cruz and the back line managed to record their 3rd consecutive clean sheet. The win moves the girls record to 6-3 overall, and 5-2 in region play.

Boys

The boys matchup featured a couple of top 10 ranked teams, with the Toombs County boys being ranked #3 and Appling being ranked #7. The contest was tied 0-0 at halftime, but Miguel Granados broke up the scoreless match with a goal in the 2nd half. Appling equalized on a free kick, but a penalty kicked, converted by Braylen Dietrich, proved to be the difference as the bulldogs held on to win 2-1. The boys are now 8-1 overall, and 6-1 in region play. vs. Tattnall

The Toombs County Soccer teams continued their dominant home performances on the season by picking up 2 more wins over region foes Tattnall County on Friday night.

Girls

The girls had a strong offensive showing, with 6 goals scored. Leading the way were Emma Wright and Emerson Powell, who each scored 2 goals. Estrella Barbosa added one, and Tattnall scored an own goal. The lady dawgs conceded 3 goals to Tattnall, but managed to outscore them for the 6-3 victory. The lady dawgs are now 7-3 on the season, and 6-2 in region play.

Boys

The boys matchup featured the #3 ranked bulldogs against the #1 ranked, and defending state champions, Tattnall County. In front of a great crowd, Miguel Granados scored 1st for the bulldogs, just 9 minutes into the match. A few minutes later, a handling call inside the penalty area by a Tattnall defender resulted in a penalty kick. Braylen Dietrich converted from the mark, making the score 2-0, and the score remained 2-0 at the break.

In the 2nd half, Toombs County continued to apply pressure and Yovanny Zamorano was fouled in the penalty area. Zamorano stepped up and converted the penalty kick into the 3rd goal of the evening for the bulldogs. The defense only needed one of those goals, as they went on to keep the clean sheet against a very good offensive Tattnall side.

The boys are now 9-1 on the season and 7-1 in region play.

Head Coach Jeremy Moore said, “It was an exciting night for both groups. The girls have established themselves as a solid competitor in the region. They are quietly going about their business, even though they have had to battle through numerous injuries already this season. We have a tough group of girls that show up and compete. Even on nights when we are not at our best, they find a way to win.

'The boys knew they let one get away over at Tattnall a few weeks ago. They have had this rematch in their minds since we left the field at Tattnall. They wanted revenge and they showed what they are capable of tonight. It was a great team win to knock off a very strong team, and to keep them shutout all night is a huge testament to what our defensive abilities are.”

This week the Bulldogs hosted Windsor Forest on Tuesday after presstime. They will back in action on Friday at Pierce County with the first game starting at 5:00 p.m.
