Eagles Sweep Portal

The Montgomery County High School baseball team swept the Panthers of Portal last week to kick off their Region schedule. The wins improved their overall record to 6-7, and they are now 3-0 in the Region.

Game 1 MCHS scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. The first of those was driven in by Marquis Martin, then Eric White walked to bring in a run with the bases loaded, and a double by Bray Williamson put MCHS up 4-0. Jay Harris followed that with a base clearing triple to push the Eagles lead to 7- 0.

In the second inning, Neal Hower picked up an RBI for an 8-0 lead, followed by Jayden Williams' hit to make it 9-0. Harris walked with the bases loaded to put MCHS up 10-0, and then Martin stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a grand slam for a 14-0 lead.

MCHS added a run in the fourth inning as they won the game by the run rule, 15-0.

Luke Burns was on the mound for MCHS and threw a four-inning no hitter.

Game 2

At Portal on Thursday for a double header, the Eagles again racked up the runs on the way to a win. MCHS took the lead in the top of the first inning with one run, but Portal picked up three in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 lead.

MCHS answered in the top of the second inning with three more runs. MCHS loaded up the bases, and a hit by batter, a fielder's choice and then a double by Joseph Owens brought in three runs. Portal plated one run in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 4-4.

It wasn't until the top of the fifth inning that the Eagles went back on top. A couple of errors by the Panthers led to six runs from MCHS as they took a 10-4 lead. Portal wasn't done, though, as they scored five more runs it the bottom of the sixth inning to close the MCHS lead to 10-9.

But the Eagles put seven more on the board in the top of the seventh inning. White, Harris, and Martin all picked up RBI's as the Eagles took a 17-9 lead. MCHS held in the bottom of the seventh to win the game by that score.

Game 3
