MCBOE Names Superintendent Finalist
The Montgomery County Board of Education named current Laurens County Associate Superintendent Dr. Ronda Hightower as the sole finalist candidate for the Superintendent position at their regular monthly meeting on Monday, March 18.
Current Montgomery County Schools Superintendent Stan Rentz announced his resignation earlier this year, as he shared a letter with the Board of Education and attendees at the Board’s meeting on January 16. Rentz has served as the system’s superintendent since 2021. continued from page
Since the announcement, the Board of Education has met regularly to interview several candidates for the position and worked to narrow down the options. During the discussion at the most recent meeting, Board Member Susan Beard made the motion to select Hightower as the final candidate. The motion was seconded by Board Member John O’Conner and passed on a 4-1 vote, with Board Member Pete Ward objecting to the proposal, as he shared he felt that Dr. Marvin Howard should be the final candidate.
Board Chairman Henry Price commented on the decision, as he remarked, “After weeks of interviews and searching the state for superintendent candidates, we have finally named Dr. Ronda Hightower from Laurens County School System as the sole finalist candidate to be voted on [in] no more than 14 days for the superintendent role of Montgomery County.”
“Dr. Hightower has been everywhere from a Board of Education secretary, to a paraprofessional, all the way on up to interim superintendent,” he added.
Hightower’s information will be available for review within the next two weeks at the Board of Education for the public. A called board meeting will be scheduled after 14 days for a formal vote on the position.
