Treutlen Sweeps Telfair
The Vikings baseball team of Treutlen County High School rolled over Telfair County in three Region games last week as they pushed their record to 8-4 overall and 3-3 in Region action.
Game 1
On Tuesday at home the Vikings fell behind in the top of the first inning as the Trojans scored a run to take the early 1-0 lead. But in the bottom of the first, Treutlen put seven runs on the board off four hits, including a two-run double by Cooper Brantley.
The Vikings added six more runs in the second inning as they extended their lead to 13-1. Kylan Page, Branton Hackle, Branely, Jackson Walker, and Kilby Mc-Clendon all drove in runs in the inning. In the top of the third inning, Telfair added two runs, but two more from the Vikings in the bottom of the inning gave them a 15-3 lead. Treutlen held off the Trojans over the next two innings to win the game by the run rule, 15- 3.
Game 2
In the first game of a double header on Thursday, the Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. They added two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth as they were on top 4- 0.
Then in the top of the sixth inning Treutlen exploded for eight runs. Acie Dickens drove in two, Page picked up an RBI, Chad Bright doubled in a run, Jake Brooks doubled in a run, as did Brantley, and finally Mc-Clendon drove in two runs with a single.
Treutlen took the win over Telfair, 12-0 in six innings.
Game 3
In the final game of the series, the Vikings took the lead, 2-0, in the bottom of the first inning off hits by Dickens and Page. Telfair tied the game in the top of the second inning, but two more from the Vikings in the third put them up 4-2.
Treutlen added a run in the fourth inning, but Telfair closed the lead to 5-3 in the top of the fifth. Treutlen plated one more run in the bottom of the fifth in the way to a 6-3 win.
This week the Vikings have a Region series with Wilcox County. They played the first game after presstime on Tuesday. They will play at home on Thursday at 6:00 p.m an then at Wilcox on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
