4 Wins For Wheeler Co.
It was a busy week for the Bulldogs baseball team of Wheeler County High School as they picked up four wins to improve their record to 14-1 on the year and 8-0 in Region play. They took all three games of the three-game series against Dooly County, and picked up a win over Montgomery County as well. vs. Montgomery
On Wednesday of last week the Bulldogs faced off with the Eagles in Mt. Vernon. It was a high scoring game with Wheeler coming out on top. The Bulldogs picked up a run in the top of the first inning with the Eagles tying the game in the bottom of the frame.
Wheeler jumped ahead in the top of the second inning with 5 more runs, two of which came off a hit by Walker Bridges. That put the Bulldogs on top 6-1. Wheeler added six more runs in the third inning. Kolt Bell singled in a run, Drew Dixon drove in a run, and then Kyler Stinson hit a grand slam to left field to push the lead to 12-1.
MCHS plated four runs in the bottom of the frame off three hits and a walk with the bases loaded. That closed the lead to 12-5. Wheeler added two more in the top of the fourth inning, but the Eagles closed the lead to 14-10 with five runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Wheeler pulled away as they scored three more in the fifth and four in the sixth on the way to a 21-10 victory. vs. Dooly Game 1 The first game of the series was the closet of the three. Wheeler got a run in the top of the first inning and added two more in the fourth as they led 3-0. The Bulldogs scored two more in the fifth inning to take a 5-0 lead.
Dooly plated a run in the sixth inning, but one more in the seventh gave the Bulldogs a 6-1 win.
Game 2
In the second game, Wheeler blew the Bobcats out as they won the game by the run rule in three innings. Wheeler opened the game up with 8 runs in the top of the first inning and added 10 more in the second inning to take an 18-0 lead.
Wheeler scored one more in the third on the way to a 19-0 win. Bell led the way with three hits. Rodgers picked up the win on the mound for the Bulldogs.
Game 3
In the third game of the series, the Bulldogs again won by the run rule in just three innings. Dooly picked up 2 runs in the top of the second inning, but 6 by the Bulldogs in the bottom half of the inning put them on top 6-2.
Wheeler added 11 runs in the bottom of the third inning to pick up the win, 17-2. Wheeler got big hits from Layton Horne, Carson Ford, and Jay Adams. Walker Bridges got the win on the mound for the Bulldogs.
This week Wheeler matches up with Telfair County in a three-game Region series. The first game of the series was on Tuesday after presstime. They will play on Thursday in Alamo at 6:00 p.m. an then on Friday in McRae at 6:00 p.m.
