The Southeast Georgia Rural Community Network was awarded a $25,000 grant by the Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer (GAABC), producer of the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. The grant will fund The Southeast Georgia Breast Health Program in the Toombs and surrounding counties of Southeast Georgia. This grant is one of 42 awarded by GAABC this year to breast cancer programs across Georgia.
“GAABC is extremely privileged to support so many impactful programs. These grantees are providing services that save lives, restore dignity, and imbue hope,” said Jeremy May, Interim Director for Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer.
Network Executive Director Dr. Susan McLendon commented, “Over the last ten years, our network has received grant funding from It’s the Journey, which recently changed its name to The Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer. These funds and partnerships with five hospital systems in the region have provided screening mammograms and diagnostic services for both men and women in a 17-county area of Southeast Georgia. Participants are eligible for services if they are uninsured and meet financial screening requirements.”
GAABC produces the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer, an annual endurance walk that raises funds for breast health and breast cancer programs in Georgia. Since 2002, GAABC has raised $19 million and funded 554 breast cancer and breast health programs in the state.
