Sign Up For The Onion Run
The 46th Annual Onion Run is coming up and registration is happening now.
Preregistration ends on April 16 for both the half marathon and the 5k race. Registration will still be open but with an increase in price from the preregistration fees.
The 1-mile registration is open through April 26, and the cost is $20.
There will be race day registration for the 5k and 1-mile, but none the day of the race for the half marathon. An additional $5 for any registration after April 16.
Participants in the 5K may also run the 1-mile for no additional fee.
Early race packet pickup will be on Friday, April 26, from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. The day of the race pickup, on Saturday, April 27, will begin at 6:30 a.m. All preregistered participants get a T-shirt and may take advantage of the fluids and fruit bars at the finish line.
Last year had the largest ever turnout for the Onion Run, and they are hoping this year will be just as good. So get signed upifyouplantorun,orif you are coming to watch, get there early to find your spot on the race route. Instead of starting the day with the 1-mile run/ walk, the day will start with the half marathon at 7:00 a.m. That will be followed by the 5K race at 7:15 a.m. That will be followed by a 1-mile run/walk race at 8:00 a.m. All three races begin and end on Church Street between Vidalia First Baptist Church and the Vidalia First United Methodist Church.
Awards will be presented at around 8:30 a.m. to the top three female and top three male runners, overall, in the 1 mile run.
Runners in the 5K and half marathon races will be divided by age group (0-10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70 & over). Awards will be given to the top three female and male runners in each age division of those races. There will also be prizes for the top three female and male runners, overall, in the 5K and half marathon.
In the second year of the half marathon, a new course record was set that could stand for quite some time. Orinthal Striggles of Columbia, SC, took the top spot in a time of 1:23.24. The women's course record is still held by Amanda Partee-Manders with a time of 1:37.46.
The 5K male course record is 17:34 by Clint Watkins in 2002, and the female record is a time of 19:22 which was recorded by Kristen Arendt from Colorado in 2018.
