TCHS Defeats Bradwell

Thursday evening’s Senior Night for Toombs County High School soccer was one for the books. TCHS took on Bradwell Institute and picked up wins in both the girls' and boys' games.
Girls
The girls’ team dominated Bradwell Institute with a resounding 7-2 victory. Leading the charge was Emma Wright, who netted a hat trick. Emerson Powell contributed significantly with two goals, enhancing the team’s lead. Estrella Barbosa and Maggie Rodriguez each added a goal to the tally, rounding out a robust team performance.
Boys
The boys’ game was equally thrilling, featuring a dramatic showdown that extended into penalty kicks. Yovanny Zamorano was a standout, scoring two crucial goals during regulation to keep the team competitive. Goalkeeper Agustin Cruz was pivotal in the match’s outcome, making two critical saves during the seven rounds of penalty kicks.
The tension peaked in the 7th round of penalty kicks, when Angel Morales successfully converted a decisive penalty kick, clinching the match winner.
Notably, Cruz also made a significant save on a penalty kick late in the match, which was crucial in maintaining the Bulldogs’ momentum before Zamorano’s second goal equalized the score. Both teams concluded the regular season on a high note with these victories, making the evening a memorable celebration of the senior players’ contributions throughout their high school careers.
This week the Toombs County teams will enter the GHSA State Playoffs. The Lady Bulldogs will face off with Rutland on Thursday of this week on the road. TCHS is the #3 seed out of Region 3AA and Rutland is the #2 seed out of Region 2AA. The boys will face off with Kendrick on Friday at home. TCHS is the #1 seed out of Region 3AA, and Kendrick is the #4 seed out of Region 2AA. Times of the games are TBD.
