Eagles Are Region Champs
The Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles baseball team took on Charlton County, Brentwood, and Habersham last week. VHA dropped the first two games, but bounced back with a win over Habersham. With the final win, Heritage secured the Region Championship. VHA will jump into the State Playoffs this week as they face off with Excel Christian. vs. Charlton
It was a tough loss for the Eagles as the Indians of Charlton came back to win in the bottom of the seventh inning.
VHA took the early lead with a run in the top of the first inning, and then it turned into a pitchers' dual. Neither team scored a run until Charlton in the bottom of the seventh.
The Indians loaded the bases and then came a grand slam to give Charlton a 4-1 win over VHA. vs. Brentwood
Brentwood picked up a run in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. The scored remained that way until the top of the sixth inning. VHA scored five runs in the inning with two of those coming off a big double by Ledger Curl.
But in the bottom of the frame, the grand slam bug came to bite the Eagles again as Brentwood came through with a grand slam and another RBI to take a 6-5 lead. Brentwood held in the top of the seventh to take the win, 6-5. vs. Habersham
VHA came back with a run rule win over Habersham on Friday at home. VHA took the lead in the bottom of the first inning as Curl scored on a sacrifice fly, RJ Wells drove in two runs, and Trevor White drove in one run for a 4-0 lead.
VHA picked up one more run in the second inning, and one in the fourth for a 6-0 lead. VHA capped off the win with four runs in the fifth inning as they came out on top, 10-0.
This Friday the Eagles will host Excel for a best-of-three series in the first round of the GAPPS State Playoffs. The first game of the double header on Friday will be at 1:30 p.m. If necessary, they will play a game 3 on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.
