RTCA Takes Region Title
The Crusader baseball team of Robert Toombs Christian Academy swept Memorial Day in a threegame Region series last week to claim the Region Championship. RTCA is now 10-3 on the season and they are 6-0 in Region play. They will wrap up the regular season this week as they get ready for the GIAA State Playoffs.
Game 1
On Monday of last week in Savannah, Memorial got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but that was the only run that the Crusaders allowed in the game.
RTCA bounced back with two runs in the top of the second inning and then two more in the third to take a 4-1 lead.
RTCA added two more in the fifth and one in the sixth inning on the way to a 7-1 win over the Matadors.
Game 2
It was a big first inning for the Crusaders at home on Thursday in the first game of a double header that gave them the win. RTCA put 12 runs on the board with Brittan Tabor driving in three runs in the first inning. Hayden Kight, Gage Brantley, and Tabor singled in a run each to get the Crusaders out to a 3-0 lead. Blake Durden walked with the bases loaded, and then a single by Landon Sauls made it 5-0. Brody Randall came through with a big hit that cleared the bases to push the lead to 8-0. Kight followed that with an RBI triple and Tabor double to knock in two more runs as RTCA led 11-0. The final run of the inning came off a hit by Banks Hopkins.
RTCA scored four more runs in the second inning on the way to a 16-0 win over Memorial.
Game 3
It was more of the same in the second game of the double header as Tabor drove in four more runs for a total of eight RBI's in two games.
Memorial took the early lead with a run in the top of the first inning, but RTCA shut them down after that. In the bottom of the inning Tabor drove in two runs, and a single by Hopkins put RTCA on top 3-1.
RTCA added six more runs in the second inning. Brantley doubled in two runs, Tabor followed that with an inside-the-park home run to push the lead to 8-1, and error brought in a run, and then Sauls hit a triple to give RTCA a 9-1 lead.
RTCA added two runs in the third inning and then capped the day off with five runs in the fourth to win the game by the run rule, 16-1.
This week RTCA was at Frederica Academy on Tuesday after presstime. They will play their final game of the regular season on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Citizens Christian.
