Heritage Into Semifinals

The Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles baseball team took care of business in the first round of the GAPPS State Playoffs last week as they swept Excel Christian in a bestof- three series on Friday. The Eagles are vying for a three-peat as State Champions after winning it all the past two seasons.

Game 1

The first game of the series was closer than expected, but VHA came out on top. Heritage posted three runs in the first inning off of hits by Ledger Curl, Delton Price, RJ Wells and Maddyx Herrin.

Heritage added another run in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead, and then scored one more in the fifth on the way to a 5-0 win.

Price, JT Cofield, Jake Adams, and Herrin all drove in runs in the game. Greer Posey got the win on the mound as he went five innings and struck out 10 batters. Dalton Price closed out the game on the mound for VHA and stuck out three batters.

Game 2

In the second game of the day, the bats for Heritage came alive as they pounded out 12 hits on the way to a 17-0 run rule win.

Heritage put five runs on the board in the first inning and then in the second pulled away with eight more runs. VHA plated a run in the fourth inning and picked up the win with three more in the fifth.

Price led the way with 6 RBI's in the game and a home run. Curl and Hardy Franklin each drove in 2 runs, and Wells picked up an RBI. Cofield pitched all five innings for VHA and struck out 11 batters, giving up only 1 hit, and walking none.

This week Heritage will take on Horizon Christian in the second round in a rematch of last year's State Championship Series. They will play a double header on Friday with the first game starting at 1:30 p.m. with the second game to follow. If necessary, they will play a third game on Saturday morning beginning at 11:00 a.m.
