TCHS Fishing At Lake Hartwell

On April 20, 2024, Toombs County High School’s freshman bass fishing duo, AJ Bagby and Clayton Williams, showcased their angling skills at the GHSA Lake Hartwell Bass Tournament. Competing against a field of 247 boats, AJ and Clayton secured a commendable 26th place finish by catching a fivebass limit weighing 9 pounds and 15 ounces. This impressive performance at Lake Hartwell not only highlighted their fishing prowess but also earned them a spot in the upcoming GHSA State Championship Bass Tournament.
Throughout the tournament, the team demonstrated strategic fishing by targeting postspawn spotted bass and largemouths just outside spawning flats, utilizing jerkbaits and swimbaits effectively. Their successful approach led to a remarkable catch of 32 fish during the event.
Set to take place on May 4, 2024, at Wildwood Park on Lake Clarks Hill, the state championship will see strong representation from Toombs County High School, with three teams, including AJ and Clayton, having qualified. Other Lake Dawgs participating will be the duo of Gracie Landrum and Carlie Richter, as well as the team of Levy Martin and Drew Woodruff.
This qualification marks a significant achievement for the Toombs County High School Bass Team, reflecting their dedication and skill in competitive fishing. As the State Championship approaches, the Lake Dawgs are gearing up to bring their best to Lake Clarks Hill, hoping to continue their successful run and make their school proud.
