Vidalia High School track and field traveled to Pierce County for the AA Region 3 Championship and came home with the Region Championship for the boys and girls teams.

According to the Milesplit rankings, the girls were projected to win, but the boys were the underdogs and had their work cut out for themselves. At the end of the day, they outperformed Appling County clinching the team championships and advancing 35 athletes to the Sectional meet next week at East Jackson High School.

Girls

For the girls, the Indians came away with 202 points to take 1st place over Appling in 2nd with 143 points. Pierce County took 3rd with 126 points. In the boys' meet the Indians took the top spot with 159.5 points over 2nd place Appling with 143 points. Tattnall County took the 3rd place spot with 105 points.

nate in his events bringing home the win in the 800m, 1600m, 4x800m relay, and runner up in the 4x400m relay, while also earning the High Point Award. Georgia Meredith was runner up in the High Point Award while winning the 800m, and placing 2nd in the 1600m, 3200m and 4x800m relay.

VHS Region Champions were Meredith in the 800m in a time of 2:36, Dashia Ford in the 100m hurdles in a time of 15.65, Dreshiya Jackson in the long jump with a jump of 16'7”, and Takaiya Bacon in the triple jump with a jump fo 35'2”. The relay team of Kayden Love, Journey Clements, Zaviyana Walton, and J'Miya Hunt also won the 4x100m relay.

Boys

For the boys, Driggers led the way with wins in the 800m in a time of 1:59 and a win in the 1,600m in a time of 4:46. AJ Thomas took the win in the high jump with a jump of 6'2”. The relay team of Jordan Johnson, Timothy Corbin, Jude Owen, and Cash Driggers won the 4x800m relay.

Coach Mandy Godbee said, “It was a hard fought two days of competition and I could not be more proud of these athletes for their diligence and grit throughout the competition. They all knew they had to execute to come up with the win and that is just what they did. Our coaches did an excellent job preparing these athletes. Derman Simmons, Jaylen Clements, Lee Humphrey and Erica Palmer are a major asset to this program and are critical factors for the success of these athletes.”
