LRD Girls Finish In 3rd Place
Lyons' and Vidalia's, 10u girls All-Star teams both took part in the 61st Annual Lyons Youth Tournament last week. Lyons had the best run of the local teams in the tournament as they finished in third place.
Vidalia got things going as they faced off with Glennville on Saturday, June 1. Vidalia pulled away from Glennville on the way to a 15-7 victory. Lyons also cruised in their first game of the tournament as they took on Reidsville. Lyons jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the first inning and rolled to a 20-6 win.
In the second round, the VRD girls lost their game to Emanuel County. Emanuel won the game by the run rule, 18-3. Lyons also fell in their next game as they lost to Long County 16-10.
In the losers' bracket, Lyons bounced back with a big win over Glennville, 20-0, to keep their hopes alive. VRD lost their next game to Evans County in a high scoring battle. Vidalia fell by just one run, 22-21. That loss ended the tournament for VRD.
Lyons was up next against Evans County with Lyons taking the win. Lyons won the game 27-18 to move into the semifinals of the losers' bracket.
In that next game, Lyons had their run come to an end as they lost to Emanuel County, 9-5.
That set up Emanuel County in Long County in the Championship. Emanuel won the first game 15-12 to force a Game 2, but in that second game Long took the win, 14-12, to claim the tournament title.
