Several local teams competed in the 8u boys All-Star tournament in the 61st Annual Lyons Youth Tournament last week. Vidalia Gold had the best run of the local teams in the tournament as they finished in second place. Vidalia also fielded a Maroon team, while Lyons, Montgomery County, and Soperton also all had teams in the tournament.

VRD Gold played their first game of the tournament against Reidsville and came away a winner, 21-3. Soperton fell in their first game, 16-6, to Glennville. VRD Maroon took on Montgomery County in the first round and won that game, 15-7.

In the second round, Lyons played their first game after a bye. They faced off with VRD Maroon and took the win over their rival, 19-10. VRD Gold won their game over Emanuel County, 14-4.

In the quarterfinals of the winners' bracket, VRD Gold cruised to another win as they defeated Appling County, 122. Lyons fell in their quarterfinal game to Glennville in a one-run battle. Glennville got the win, 17-16, over LRD.

In the semifinals of the winners' bracket, Glennville took a big win over VRD Gold, 15-3, to move into the Championship Game.

In the losers' bracket, VRD Maroon dropped their next game to Jenkins County, 23-15, to end their tournament run. Emanuel County ended the tournament for Soperton with a 14-10 win.

Lyons’ loss in the winners' bracket moved them into the quarterfinals of the losers' bracket where they took on Emanuel County. Lyons won a close game, 9-6, to keep their hopes alive. Up next for Lyons was Jenkins County, and LRD rolled to a win, 14-6, to move into the semifinals of the losers' bracket to face off with VRD Gold.

In that semifinal game, VRD came out of the gate on fire and took an easy run-rule win. VRD won the game, 232, to move into the Championship for a rematch with Glennville.

In the Championship Game, VRD played much better than they did in their teams' first meeting, but Glennville still came out on top as they won the contest 16-14. That gave VRD Gold second place in the tournament.
