funnel cakes to wings and pork skins will be available to hungry festivalgoers, and vendors will be selling a variety of wares including customized hats, woodcraft, candles, Tshirts and more. Children can enjoy activities ranging from a bouncy house to a ride aboard the “Jay Bird Express.” A display of antique tractors at the city park downtown is a fun attraction and a great place to stage a photo or two.

Entertainers will take the stage starting at 5 p.m., singing Southern rock, country and gospel favorites until 9 p.m. when the fireworks show begins. Headlining the entertainment will be the Southern Confessional Band of Fitzgerald, which performs at 8 p.m. Local favorites Jay Ashley and Parker Brownley will sing at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively. Maggie Alyssa will go on stage at 7 p.m.

The fireworks will begin at dusk. Every year the number of people drawn to Alamo for the spectacle increases. Crowds in the hundreds set up lawn chairs in the city’s rose garden and watch from the beds of pickup trucks lined up along the city’s business district on Railroad Avenue.

“People come from all over the area and even from outside the state —from places like Macon, Atlanta, even Florida,” Chaney said. “We think it is one of the best fireworks shows in the state.”

Admission to the event is free and everyone is welcome. Proceeds derived from vendors’ fees will benefit the Fire Department by funding the purchase of service equipment and other needs. Visitors are also invited to visit the Little Ocmulgee State Park in Wheeler County, just 10 miles away via U.S. Highway 280 and U.S Highway 441 where a number of activities are offered, including camping, hiking, picnicking, canoeing and fishing on the lake, playgrounds, as well as a lodge and restaurant.
