VRD 8u Boys Win District

The 8u boys from Vidalia Recreation Department rolled to a GRPA District 1 Championship last week in Vidalia. They won four straight games to take home the title. They will now move on to the GRPA State Tournamnt this week in Effingham County. vs. Rincon

The first game of the tournament was against Rincon. It was the closest game of the tournament for VRD, as they won by just seven runs.

VRD won the game over Rincon by the score of 7-0. That moved them in to the second round to face off with Emanuel County. vs. Emanuel County

VRD cruised to a win. Emanuel scored first in the game with a run in the top of the first inning, but VRD answered with three in the bottom half of the inning to take the early lead, 3-1. VRD added two more in the second inning as they went on top, 5- 1.

In the top of the third inning, Emanuel closed the lead to 5-4 with three runs, but in the bottom half of the inning, VRD broke the game open with 10 runs to take a commanding 15-4 lead. Vidalia needed just one run in the bottom of the fourth inning to win the game by the run rule, 164. vs. Effingham County

Up next was Effingham in the semifinals of the winners' bracket. Vidalia scored four runs in the first inning and then after a run by Effingham in the top of the second, VRD added two more to lead to the game, 6-1, after two innings.

Effingham closed it to a one-run game in the top of the third inning as they plated four runs to make the score 6-5, but in the bottom of the inning, VRD added 10 runs to their total to go on top, 16-5.

Effingham scored a run in the fourth inning, but two more from VRD in the bottom half gave them the win by the run rule, 18-6. vs. Emanuel County Championship It was another run rule win for VRD in the Championship Game. Emanuel did go on top with four runs in the top of the first inning, but Vidalia answered with eight in the bottom of the first. VRD added seven more in the second inning to take a 15-4 lead. Emanuel scored a run in the top of the third inning to make it 15-5, but five more from VRD in the bottom of the third gave them the win, 20-5. The win made VRD the District Champions.

This week VRD is at Effingham County for the GRPA State Tournament. Vidalia played their first game on Tuesday after presstime against the Savannah Mustangs. If VRD makes it to the Championship Game, it will be on Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
