R.J. Florez gained national recognition last week, as he was the only student from Georgia to advance to the final round of the Job Interview competition at the National Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) conference.

Florez first competed in the job interview competition at the state level in March, where he earned 3rd place, claiming him a spot in the national competition in Orlando, Florida. During the national convention and competition, Florez competed in the first round of competition on June 30, and was announced as a finalist in the competition on July 1. He competed a second time on July 1, and though he didn’t win, said he is very happy with the progress and knowledge gained in the effort.

“I am so proud of RJ.,” Toombs County High School FBLA Advisor Jessica Jones emphasized. “In order for him to compete at the National Conference, he had to place in the top 3 in Georgia. At the National Conference, he along with 84 others from across the nation competed for a chance to be in the final 14, and RJ made it to the final round. I have seen his confidence grow as he has competed among some of the best.”

Florez, a recent Toombs County High School graduate, will continue his academic journey at University of Georgia this fall, as he plans to pursue a degree in political science, and to eventually attend law school. He also hopes to earn a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, so that in the future, he can work in corporate law. “I have no doubt that RJ will continue to accomplish and to achieve remarkable things due to his drive, persistence, and relentlessness as well as his phenomenal leadership abilities. I am incredibly proud of all he has achieved thus far, and I eagerly anticipate the many future successes that lie ahead for him as he continues his academic journey at the University of Georgia this fall,” Toombs County High School Principal Marissa Morris remarked.
