Brewton-Parker College (BPC) celebrates with Dr. Sampyo Hong, Professor of Physical Sciences, who secured a grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation to provide students with the opportunity to work alongside experienced scientists doing cutting- edge research.

Supported by the Chemical Catalysis program in the Division of Chemistry of the National Science Foundation, Dr. Hong, in collaboration with Professor Rahman of the University of Central Florida and Professor Liu of the University of California Riverside, will study the fundamental properties of singly dispersed metalatom catalysts (Pt, Ag, Cu, and Co). This grant will enable students to engage in this active research to discover paradigm-shifting strategies for predicting and controlling the reactivity of atomically dispersed catalysts as a function their local coordination environment.

The impact the USF grant will make extends beyond the confines of BPC. It will also contribute to the broader scientific community by producing well-trained and knowledgeable science graduates. This internship will allow BPC to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed postgraduation in the scientific research field. The experience gained through this program will enhance students' educational journey and prepare them for future success in their careers.

Dr. Hong, a Co-Investigator in this research, expressed his excitement about the grant, 'This is a remarkable opportunity for our students. By engaging in cutting-edge research, they will not only enhance their understanding of scientific concepts but also contribute to meaningful advancements in their fields.'

In the past, Dr. Hong has assisted the college in securing similar grants, providing several former students with valuable research experience for post-graduation. BPC is honored to have faculty members committed to advancing science education and providing opportunities for our students.
