Indians Over Effingham

The Vidalia High School Indians softball team played a scrimmage game against South Effingham on Thursday of last week and took the win over the Lady Mustangs 5- 3.

The Indians took the lead in the top of the first inning with two runs. The first came off a hit by Gabby Royal to make it 1-0. VHS then loaded up the bases and a walk to Lilly Grace Maybin brought in another run for a 2-0 lead.

The Mustangs closed the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning, but VHS added two more runs in the top of the fourth to push their lead to 4-1. Effingham plated two runs in the fifth inning to make it 4-3, but one more from Vidalia in the top of the seventh inning made the final score 5-3.

Freshman Tori Polke got the win in the circle as she went all seven innings. She gave up 10 hits, but only allowed three runs. She had four strikeouts in the game. VHS had 12 hits in the game. Royal and Polke each drove in one run. Miya Howard and Deidra Boston collected multiple hits for the Indians. Boston also stole two bases.

The Indians were scheduled to kick off the regular season on Tuesday of this week against ECI, but with Hurricane Debby, that game has been canceled. Depending on weather and field conditions, the Indians will play their first Region game on Thursday against rival Toombs County at home at 6:00 p.m. They are also scheduled to play this Saturday in a tournament against Harlem at 10:00 a.m. and then against Greenbrier at 2:00 p.m.
