MoCo Sheriff & Probate Court Warn of Scam

mrandolphadvance@gmail.com

The Montgomery County Sheriff and Probate Court Offices are warning citizens to beware of a current scam involving traffic tickets.

According to Sheriff Doug Maybin and Probate Judge Rubie Nell Sanders, individuals who currently have traffic tickets within the county’s traffic court have been receiving calls from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office phone number from individuals pretending to be employees of the Sheriff’s Office. These callers are demanding that those with traffic tickets pay their tickets over the phone immediately to avoid being arrested for failure to appear in court.

“We will never call you regarding a ticket. Probate Court handles traffic court,” Maybin explained. “Also, we do not take payment over the phone. If someone calls and asks you about any of those things, it is not us.”
