tem were recognized during the GAEL Summer Conference. In addition to Reid’s recognition, Sally D. Meadows Assistant Principal Michael Johnson was one of two educational leaders awarded a $1,000 scholarship to continue to learn more in his field. He accepted this scholarship at the conference.
Reid was unable to attend the conference, allowing First District RESA Specialist Lindsey Lee to accept the award on her behalf. Reid sent a short acceptance address to the conference, which read: “Thank you for this incredible honor. Being recognized with an award named after Dr. Jim Puckett, an educator whose legacy of excellence continues to inspire us all, is truly humbling. I want to express my gratitude to all of the educators who work tirelessly every day to achieve what we know at Vidalia City School District as the mission of education: investing in relationships, igniting learning, inspiring excellence, and impacting community. Thank you for this tremendous honor and the honor of who I get to work with every day.”
According to Perry, Reid was nominated for this award by her peer educational leaders throughout the state for her record of exemplary service to education and her leadership qualities that serve as a positive role model to others.
“Because this leader is so humble, she would not have taken this [award publicly] nor do I think she told anyone in this district that she was nominated for this award,” Perry emphasized. “It is no surprise this award went to [Dr. Sandy Reid].”
Lee and Perry presented Reid with the award in front of the audience attending the staff training, who Reid then tearfully addressed. “That was just amazing. I just know that the Lord lays things out the way they are supposed to be. I am just so thankful to be able to do this here today because although GAEL is exceptional, there is nothing better than receiving that in a room full of people that you love and care about, and who are working the same place with the same group of kids. It just means so much to me to be able to do that and be here today. “
