The Vidalia High School SoundTribe Marching Band will have audiences moving and grooving on Friday nights this football season, as the Band plans to celebrate the King of Pop during their halftime show, and remind others of the power of hope during the marching band competition season.
According to Band Director Elizabeth Taylor, audiences can expect to hear several of Jackson’s biggest hits, such as “Bad,” “Beat It,” “Billie Jean,” and “Thriller,” on Friday nights, but will be sharing a Beacon of Hope during their marching band competition show, which features “Come Sail Away,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “How Far I’ll Go,” and “The River” by Garth Brooks.
Alongside Taylor, Associate Band Director Steven Arnold also helps to ensure that all performances are the SoundTribe’s best. Drum Major Hannah Nichols also works closely with the directors to lead the group. “She is an incredibly outstanding clarinetist and athlete at Vidalia High School. She has proven to be an exemplary leader for our ensemble and we cannot wait to see her in action on Friday nights,” Taylor commented about Nichols.
The band also utilizes the help of several student leaders, who work to keep their fellow band members accountable. These leaders include Band Captain Jeremy Best; Woodwind Captains Naomi Troester and Valeria Gonzalez; High Brass Captain Aiden Harvill; Low Brass Captain Matthew Peters; Percussion Captain Cullen Jackson; Center Snare Jo’Hari Shinhoster; Auxiliary Captain Anne-Claire Taylor; and Equipment Manager Jasani Griffin. “We have an incredible senior class of 16 SoundTribe members. Our leadership team is helping elevate our ensemble to new heights,” Taylor emphasized. “We are very proud of the hard work the SoundTribe has put in thus far. We look forward to creating an exciting game day atmosphere in Buck Cravey Stadium.” The band will kick off their performance and competition season on Friday, August 16, at Long County High School, and will perform at their home field for the first time of the season on Friday, August 23, during the Vidalia High School Indians’ battle with Screven County High School.
