The Toombs County High School Redcoat Band is expected to be out of this world this year, as the band explores outer space with their new show, “2024: A Space Odyssey.” According to Band Director Noah Bullard, audiences can expect to hear tunes from Star Trek, E.T., 2001, “Blue Moon,” “Moondance,” “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” “When You Wish Upon A Star,” and the Mandalorian this football season. “I’m looking forward to a great band and a great football team,” Bullard emphasized. In addition to Bullard, Ashley Akridge helps to lead the band as the Assistant Band Director, Leslie McLendon serves as the Auxiliary Director, Holly Hutcheson works as the Colorguard Instructor, and Kaitlyn Bryant acts as the band’s Dance Instructor.
Several students also help to lead the band as section leaders; these students include Noelia Rivas, Danaka Robbins, Betzaida Gonzalez, Maite Lopez, Brockton Estrada, Areli Gonzalez-Reyes, Tyler Reese, and Colin Milligan. Senior Jesus Lucas is the band’s drum major, and Senior Maite Lopez serves as the assistant drum major.
“I'm very excited to see the show that the Redcoats put on the field this year. I think the Friday night audience will be highly entertained. I'm also excited for the band to perform at band competitions in Brooklet, Waycross and Blackshear this year,” Bullard remarked. The Redcoats will kick off their season at home on Friday, August 23, as the Toombs County Bulldogs take on the Dougherty Trojans.
