Wheeler Takes 2 From Northside

The Wheeler County High School softball team took on Northside from Warner Robins last Wednesday in a double header on the road. Wheeler brought the offense as they rolled to two run rule wins.

Game 1

Wheeler jumped out with six runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. Northside answered with four runs in the bottom of the first to close the lead to 6-4. But another run for Wheeler in the top of the second inning gave them a 7-4 lead.

Wheeler broke the game open in the top of the third inning as they plated 13 runs. Shiann Carey, Mackenzie Scott, and Gabby Angel each drove in a run to push the lead to 10-4. Kyleigh Horne drove in two more runs, and then the Bulldogs loaded up the bases. A walk to Molly Wright and a walk to Kaleigh Scott made it 14-4. Carey added a two-run single and Angel picked up another RBI for a 17-4 lead. Three more runs crossed the plate in the inning as Wheeler went ahead 20-4.

Northside added a run in the bottom of the inning, but that was all they could get as Wheeler took the win, 20-5, in three inning by the run rule.

Game 2

In the second game of the double header, Wheeler again pulled away to a run rule victory. They scored six runs in the top of the first inning. Angel picked up an RBI double in the top fo the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Another run scored on an error, and then three more runs crossed the plate on another error by Northside. Wheeler plated one more run in the inning to take a 6-0 lead.

In the second inning, the Bulldogs added four more runs with Angel driving in a couple with her second double of the game. Wright added a sacrifice fly and Kiley Ricks picked up an RBI single as they pushed their lead to 10-0.

Wheeler picked up another run in the third, and then in the fourth they scored six more runs. Ava Dixon walked with the bases loaded. Angel hit her third double of the game bringing in two more runs. JaDirrah Randolph drove in a run on a single, and Mackenzie Johnson singled in another run.

That gave Wheeler a 17-0 win over Westside. Dixon got the win in the circle for Wheeler as she threw a no hitter over four innings with seven strikeouts.

This week Wheeler hosted Wilcox County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday at Montgomery County at 6:00 p.m.
