Indians Fall To Blue Tide
The Vidalia High School Indians football team were in Ludowici last Friday night to take on the Blue Tide of Long County. It was a battle with AAA Long County coming out on top.
Long had the ball to start the game, but the Indians came up with a fumble to take the ball at the Tide's 26-yard line. VHS struggled to get moving on the first few plays, but a nice run and then a pass from Jackson Berry to AJ McLendon put the ball down to the 1-yard line. Jamorion Phillips took it in from there for the first touchdown of the game. VHS tacked on the PAT to take an early 7-0 lead over Long. VHS stopped Long on their next drive, but after taking back over, the Indians fumbled the ball back to Long near midfield. Long then moved the ball down the field and took it in for a touchdown. Long failed on the extra point as VHS held onto a 7-6 lead.
In the second quarter of the game, VHS added a 17-yard field goal from Adam Crutchfield to increase the Indians' lead to 10-6.
It didn't take long for Long County to jump into the lead as they broke an 87-yard touchdown run on their next possession. They added the 2-point conversion to take a 14-10 lead over the Indians.
The score remained there until about 7 minutes to go in the third quarter as Long added another rushing touchdown, this time from 34 yards out. They missed another extra point, but now were on top, 20-10.
VHS threatened midway through the fourth quarter, but a fumble ended that drive for the Indians.
Long County held on from there to take the win over VHS, 20-10.
This week VHS will have their home opener against Screven County at 7:30p.m. at Buck Cravey Field.
The game will also feature the VHS Youth Cheer Camp participants performing during the pregame show.
