Toombs PTR to Honor International Overdose Awareness Day

At a memorial ceremony from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Ronnie A. Dixon City Park on Saturday, August 31, Toombs County Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery (PTR) will remember those who died or suffered permanent injury from drug overdose This event will offer free food, resources, and support to all participants, and will feature speakers and a candlelight vigil to honor the victims.
International Overdose Awareness Day seeks to create a better understanding of overdose, reduce the stigma of drugrelated deaths, and create change that reduces the harms associated with drug use. Event Coordinator Allena McCoy spoke on the local ceremony, emphasizing, “By coming together to remember them, we stand together to say that more needs to be done to end overdose in our community.”
