Memorial Health Meadows Hospital was bustling with youthful enthusiasm this summer as several local students participated in the “Volunteen” program. The endeavor helps the students give back to their community while learning more about the healthcare industry.

A total of 16 Vidalia High School students — Christian Boyd, Valeria Gonzalez, Hadleigh Lariscey, Nathan Martin, Kiyell Mivens, Jaden Morris, Fernanda Perez-Ramos, Tezarian Scott, Sarah Kate Sharpe, Georgia Meredith, Eli Cleghorn, Myra Mead, and Aidyn Driggers — completed the program, each logging 40 hours of voluntary hours to the facility. Laylah Brantley, Aiden Harvill, and Alyssa Williams also participated, contributing some community service without completing the full program.

According to these students, the opportunity allowed them to encourage their peers to give back to their community, and helped them to narrow down what healthcare field that they want to pursue. “This experience made me realize that I enjoy the medical field, and it is definitely something I want to look into. I highly recommend this program. It taught me what I want to become one day,” one student emphasized.

Vidalia High School Healthcare Science Teacher and HOSA (Future Healthcare Professionals) Advisor Shellie Cleghorn also commented on the experience. “Vidalia High School is grateful for this opportunity in our community to our students,” she said.
