Wheeler Splits Games
The Wheeler County High School softball team took on Wilcox County and Montgomery County last week. They fell to Wilcox but picked up a win over their rival Montgomery. vs. Wilcox
At home last Tuesday, Wilcox got out in front of Wheeler with two runs in the top of the first inning. Wheeler picked up a run in the bottom of the first to close the lead to 2-1.
But in the top of the second inning, Wilcox plated six runs to take an 8-1 lead. Wheeler did pick up a run in the bottom of the third inning and two more in the fourth to close the lead to 8-4. But two more from Wilcox in the top of the sixth inning made it 10-4.
Wheeler scored a run in the sixth and one in the seventh inning, but one more from Wilcox in the seventh gave them an 11-6 victory over Wheeler. vs. Montgomery
The Lady Bulldogs bounced back on Thursday with a big win over the Lady Eagles of Montgomery in Mt. Vernon. Ava Dixon got the scoring started with a three RBI double in the top of the first inning. Molly Wright drove in two runs with a single, and then Ally Haymons plated a run with a single. By the end of the top of the first, the Bulldogs were in front 6-0 over MCHS.
Wheeler added to that lead in the second inning with an error that brought in a run, and then a ball hit by Kyleigh Horne scored another run. Another error by MCHS added two more runs to the board. Heading to the bottom of the second inning, the score was 10-0.
Three more runs from Wheeler in the top of the third inning and five more in the fourth gave the Bulldogs an 18-0 run rule victory.
This week Wheeler faced off with Toombs County on Monday and Johnson County on Tuesday, both after press time. They will be on the road on Thursday at Hawkinsville at 5:30 p.m., and then on Saturday they will host Trinity Christian at 10:00 a.m.
