The Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles kicked off their football season at home last Friday night and took on a very tough Sherwood Christian Academy team. Sherwood was the GAPPS AA State Runner-up last season with an 11-1 record, and they come into this year looking to make a stir in the GIAA, which both teams have moved to this season. The VHA Eagles are going through some changes with a new Head Coach, and several key losses off of last year's team, and the move to the GIAA. It was a tough night for VHA as they lost to Sherwood, 50-8.

Sherwood got on the board just two minutes into the game on the ground to take the early lead. They added the two-point conversion to make it 8-0. Later in the first quarter they added another score as they increased the lead to 16-0. Then with less than one minute to go in the first, they scored again on a long pass play. They failed on the two-point try, but were now on top 22- 0.

Late in the first half, the Eagles of Heritage did work the ball down the field, and with less than a minute to play, quarterback Pearson O'Neil connected with Jackson Franklin for a Heritage touchdown. VHA added the twopoint conversion with a pass from O'Neil to Dylan Green to close the lead to 22-8. But that was the only time the Eagles found the end zone in the game.

Sherwood took the ensuing kickoff and quickly moved down the field to tack on another touchdown before the end of the first half. The score at halftime was, 308, with Sherwood well out in front.

In the third quarter with seven minutes on the clock, Sherwood found the end zone again as they went ahead 44-8. They added one more touchdown in the fourth quarter on the way to their 50-8 win over VHA.

This week, on Friday, VHA will be on the road at Georgia Christian for another tough matchup. The game will kickoff in Valdosta at 7:30 p.m.
