The Vidalia High Shool Indians football scored 21 points, racking up 170 yards in the first half while limiting Screven County to just 12 yards, and then cruised to a 28-7 win over the Gamecocks Friday night at Buck Cravey Field. The win evened the Indian’s early season record to 1-1.

Neither team could produce any offense on their first possession, but on the Indians’ second drive of the night, the Indians covered 50 yards in four plays, with Alton Boles scoring a 14-yard touchdown run, putting them ahead 7-0 with 3:46 left in the opening quarter after Adam Crutchfield’s successful PAT.

The Indian defense was stout all night, allowing only one big run, a 63yard TD run in the second half. However, they produced a three-and-out on the next possession, and the Vidalia offense would go to work again, going 36 yards in 8 plays. Jamarion Phillips capped the drive on a 1-yard plunge to make the score 14-0 with 9:52 to go in the half.

The Indians’ third drive of the night came after another three-and-out for the Indian defense, forcing another punt. However, the snap sailed over the Gamecocks’ punter’s head, and the Indians were able to get to the punter and take over the ball at the Screven County 36yard line.

Two minutes later, Jackson Berry hit DJ Wallace on a 26-yard curl route, and with 56 seconds to go in the half, widening their lead to 21-0.

Gamecocks take the ball over at their 37-yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Abram Hilton scampered 63 yards for the Gamecocks’ only score, making the score 21-7, Vidalia with 7:20 left to go in the third quarter.

The Indians misjudged the ensuing kickoff, pinning them deep at their 15-yard line. But the Vidalia offense responded with a long 85-yard, 14play, time-consuming drive, which was capped by Jamarion Phillip’s 2nd touchdown of the night on a 1-yard run to make the score 28-7, with 9:29 remaining on the clock.

The Indians’ solid defense locked down the rest of the game, securing the 28-7 win for Vidalia. Next, they will face Tattnall County at Buck Cravey Field, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. this Friday.
