Lady Crusaders Win Two
The Lady Crusaders softball team of Robert Toombs Christian Academy played three games last week as they took wins over Windsor Academy and Twiggs Academy, before falling to Bulloch Academy on Thursday in a close game. RTCA is now 5-2 on the year and they are 2-0 in Region play. vs. Windsor
RTCA took the early lead with an RBI single by Meredith Durden in the bottom of the first inning. They added to that lead in the second inning with an RBI single by Railee Thomas and then an RBI double from Maddie Joyner.
In the third inning, RTCA extended their lead as an error brought in a run for a 3-0 lead. That was followed by RBI’s from Kinsley Kennedy, Mary Frances Stanley, and Joyner to push the lead to 7-0.
RTCA added one more run in the fourth inning on the way to an 8-0 run rule victory. Durden got the win in the circle for RTCA as she gave up just one hit and struck out six batters. vs. Twiggs
RTCA rolled to a win over Twiggs Academy on Tuesday of last week at home. They got the scoring started in the first inning with Amelia Mercer driving in two runs on a single. After another run scored on an error, the Crusaders loaded up the bases. Braylin Pittman walked to make the score 4-0, and then Thomas cleared the bases with a single to push the lead to 7-0.
In the second inning, Durden drove a ball deep to left field for a home run, and Emily Edwards and Stanely each drove in a run for a 10-0 lead. RTCA plated four more runs in the third inning and then held in the top of the fourth to take the game by the run rule, 14-0.
Durden was again the winning pitcher for RTCA. vs. Bulloch
RTCA ran into a tougher opponent on Thursday as they hosted Bulloch Academy. Durden had another great outing in the circle as she stuck out 10 batters, but RTCA couldn’t come through when they needed it as they dropped the game to the Lady Gators.
Bulloch got on the board in the top of the first inning with two runs to take the early lead. RTCA didn’t get on the board until the bottom of the fifth inning when Durden helped herself out with a 2-RBI double that tied the game at 2-2.
But Bulloch answered with two more runs in the top of the sixth inning and then held off the Crusaders for the next two innings to take a 4-2 win over RTCA.
This week RTCA took on Trinity Christian on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Wheeler County for a game at 5:30 p.m.
