Lady Dawgs Move To 7-1

The Toombs County High School Lady Bulldogs softball team picked up two more wins last week as they defeated Wheeler County on Monday and then beat St. Vincent's on Thursday. The Lady Bulldogs are now 7-1 on the season, and they are 3-0 in Region play. They also had their Wednesday game against Metter rained out. vs. Wheeler
Casey Cantwell had an impressive day at the plate, going 4-for-5 as the Toombs County Lady Dawgs powered past Wheeler County with an 11-2 victory on Monday. Cantwell’s consistent hitting helped propel the Bulldogs, as she singled in the third, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.
On the mound, Shay Stringer was dominant, striking out 11 batters over five innings. Stringer allowed just one hit and one run, though she issued three walks. Cantwell also pitched in relief for Toombs County to help secure the win.
Despite Wheeler County getting on the board first with a second- inning single from Molly Wright that drove in a run, the Bulldogs quickly turned the game around. Toombs County erupted in the fifth inning, scoring six runs on five hits to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Cantwell’s clutch single in the inning drove in two runs, swinging the momentum fully in favor of the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs’ offense was strong throughout the game, tallying 11 hits. Taylor Bland, Natalie Quintero, and Elly Haygood each drove in two runs. Quintero also showed patience at the plate, drawing three walks, while the team as a whole accumulated eight walks. On the basepaths, Emerson Powell and Nora Grace Mercer led the way with multiple stolen bases, contributing to the team’s total of six steals.

Shay Stringer delivered another dominant performance on Thursday, striking out 14 batters and leading the Toombs County Lady Dawgs to a 9-1 victory over the St. Vincent’s Saints. Stringer was nearly untouchable, allowing no hits and just one run over five innings while walking two.
Offensively, Casey Cantwell shined, going 3-for-3 at the plate. Cantwell’s three singles— one each in the first, third, and fourth innings— helped propel the Lady Dawgs to victory.
St. Vincent’s got on the board first in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Dawgs quickly responded. A single by Cantwell in the bottom of the first gave Toombs County a 2-1 lead, and they never looked back.
The Lady Dawgs extended their lead in the third inning with a flurry of hits. Singles by Cantwell, Natalie Quintero, and Brinley Miller, along with a groundout by Taylor Bland, each brought in a run, putting Toombs County firmly in control.
Cantwell also contributed on the mound, pitching a scoreless inning in relief with three strikeouts and no walks.
The Lady Dawgs racked up 10 hits in the game, with Cyleigh Ennis also collecting two hits in three at-bats. Defensively, Toombs County was flawless, committing no errors.
This week Toombs took on ECI on Monday and rival Vidalia at home on Tuesday, both games after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday with Savannah Christian in town at 6:00 p. m.
