Region Win For Lady Indians
The Vidalia High School Indians softball team played three games last week, picking up a win over Region foe Swainsboro on Thursday. They lost a nonregion game to Glascock County on Monday, and fell in a Region game to Savannah Christian on Tuesday. vs. Glascock
The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when the Lady Panthers of Glascock picked up a run on a sacrifice fly. Vidalia answered in the bottom of the frame as they got a 2-RBI single from Laylah Brantley to take a 2-1 lead. VHS added one more run as they went to the fourth inning with a 3-1 lead.
Glascock added a run in the fourth inning as did Vidalia, and then in the top of the fifth, the Panthers scored two more to tie the game at 4-4.
VHS plated one run in the sixth inning on another RBI from Brantley, but in the top of the seventh inning, Glascock put four runs on the board on the way to an 8-5 win. vs. Savannah Christian
Savannah took the early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. They began to pull away in the third with two more runs, and then added two more in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead. Savannah plated five more in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 11-0.
VHS finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with two runs, but they could not get any more as Savannah took the run rule win, 11-2 in five innings. vs. Swainsboro
The Indians bounced back with a Region win over the Lady Tigers on Thursday in Swainsboro.
VHS kicked things off with a home run by Deidra Boston in the top of the first inning to go ahead 1-0. They added two more runs in the inning on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Lilly Grace Maybin.
In the second inning, VHS loaded up the bases with runs scoring on a walk by Boston and a passed ball to give VHS a 5-0 lead. Then in the third inning, Paisley Ledford drove in a run, Boston walked in a run, Brantley got an RBI on a nice bunt, and then another run scored on an error as VHS increased their lead to 9-0. Tori Polke came through with an RBI single and Savannah Rushing followed with a 2-RBI hit as VHS pushed their lead to 12-0.
VHS held in the bottom of the third and the fourth innings as they took the run rule win, 12-0. Polke got the win in the circle, giving up only two hits, and striking out seven batters.
This week VHS took on rival Toombs County in Lyons on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday against St. Vincent’s at home at 6:00 p.m.
