The Crusader football team of Robert Toombs Christian Academy had the tough task of hosting the defending AA State Champions, the Edmund Burke Academy Spartans, last Friday night. RTCA gave it their all but came up short as EBA took the win, 28-14.

RTCA had the ball to start the game and got a big run across mid field from Justin Powell. But RTCa soon stalled and EBA took over on downs.

By the 10 minute mark in the second quarter, the Spartans had taken a 14-7 lead over RTCA. EBA added a 41-yard touchdown with just under 8 minutes to play in the first half. They added the extra point to take a 21-7 lead over the Crusaders.

RTCA moved the ball on a big pass on their next possession, but a penalty and then a fumble gave the ball back to the Spartans.

Late in the first half, the Crusaders did mount a drive that was capped off by a 7-yard run from Powell with just 25 seconds on the clock. Hayden Meeks added the extra point to close the lead to 21-14.

In the second half of the game, Christian Mixon had a big interception for the Crusaders in the third quarter. A few plays later another fumble hurt the Crusaders as EBA took over with good field position. The RTCA defense held on that drive and forced a punt.

EBA did score one more time in the game as they took a 28-14 lead over the Crusaders. The Spartan defense kept RTCA in check for the remainder of the game as they took the win by that score.

This week RTCA will be in Louisville as they face off with the Jaguars of Thomas Jefferson Academy. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
